CLIMBING, EVER CLIMBING EVER HIGHER

CLIMBING
CLIMBING
EVER
HIGHER
OVER
THE
STEEP
CLIFFS
WITH

PULLEYS TO AID ME,
I KEEP ON
CLIMBING.

Time out for resting between the moves up the mountains,
I know there is a need to take in more air, more oxygen, in order to combat the deprivation I get when I begin climbing higher.

Surefootedness comes from looking where I step.
Surefootedness comes from being alert.
This is me at three !   I remember being there with Grandmother.   I remember how she loved to work in her garden.   She never lost her temper at me.   Her patience in working things out so that I was given "things to do" paid off.  I do remember her praising me for things I did.
Now, is this what I do today?   In a sense.   In a sense I am listening now for God's dear Spirit to speak and to let me have His Peace in those matters He leads me.    I am now 81 years of age, and still in need of my Heavenly Father to keep me, to guide me, and to help me be surefooted and persistent in the Path He leads me on.   As I enter this new year of 2015 I thank the dear Lord Jesus Christ for coming from the Father's throne to come and live here among us, and to give His life for us.    How thankful I can be.

Here are four cousins of mine.  How time flies by !
With the formative years all past, how can I best use my time and take some joy in family, friends, church and finding ways to use what I do for the Lord.
I remember how Auntie Al certainly loved her children, and made much sacrifice for them.   How I need to follow her example by cherishing my children, and continuing to encourage and advise the adult children.    I need to listen to the Only One who is able to keep them - God Himself.
      God bless you.

THE ART OF LIVING

THE ART OF LIVING
by Wm. Henry Cash, Jr. 1949
1927 - 2012

We learn to live to a large extent,
by knowing how others lived.

A well balanced individual does not only live
for himself alone, but he also lives for the service
of humanity.

We may learn from other people, chiefly our relatives
and our close friends.

An unfortunate feature of self-rating is the possibility
of one
seriously over-rating
or
under-rating himself.

Everyone is in certain
respects inferior
to someone
else -
and in other respects
everyone
has
unusual gifts.

WE CANNOT ESCAPE HAVING TROUBLE
OR HAVING PROBLEMS,
BUT WE CAN LEARN TO MEET
THEM CONFIDENTLY
AND TRIUMPHANTLY.

No matter how bad
our situation is, it could be worse.

We have no right to be expected
to be given privileges
until we learn to
use the privileges with
due responsibility.

MOST OF US FIND
THAT WE ARE A DIFFERENT
PERSON AT HOME THAN WE ARE AT SCHOOL.

When a boy or girl has reached college age,
his personality (hers) has changed as well
as his home behavior.

IF A PERSON AT TWENTY IS NOT RADICAL, THERE IS
SOMETHING WRONG;  IF A PERSON AT FORTY IS
RADICAL, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS PERSON.

One of our most important tasks in life is to evaluate
accurately our own abilities and potentialities and make
plans for their best development.

Since we have our own lives to live, we must
be the one to discover the occupation that we
are best fitted for.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THOUGHTS ON THE ART OF LIVING

We are entitled
to the rights of mature persons
in the home
IF
 we will also
accept the responsibilities that
accompany them.

HE / SHE WHO IS 40
MAKES ADJUSTMENTS LESS EASILY
THAN WHEN HE WAS 20

---

ALL MEMBERS OF A FAMILY
SHOULD MEET RESPONSIBILITES
AND PROBLEMS TOGETHER.

The most distressing type of problem parents,
are those who are not mature enough themselves,
to face the fact that they are
growing older
and that
their children
are growing up and
no longer need their authority.

A PROGRESSIVE DEVOURING LOVE
is a sign of very
poor
parental
adjustment.

We should trust our parents
as friends, and
not
take their services
for granted.

The younger of two children of
nearly the same age is
always under the handicap of
trying to "catch up" with
the older one.

Parents of identical twins must watch themselves
closely to keep from showing favoritism over the other one.

A STEP CHILD has lost
the security of his own family
as he had originally accepted it, and
in its place
he has to accept as a parent
someone who may be a stranger.

Relatives outside the immediate
family, who live
in our home, nearly always
make family life difficult.
We need not to make our
                                                            own life to suit our
                                                            grandparents, but we may
                                                            find that their suggestions
                                                            have value.

MY OWN THOUGHTS ON THE ART
                                   OF  LIVING
                                     by Henry Cash

IT IS BETTER THAT ONE NOT GIVE
ADVICE UNLESS HE IS ASKED FOR IT.

WE SHOULD BE WILLING TO LEARN
                        FROM THE EXPERIENCES OF OLDER
                        MEMBERS OF OUR FAMILY.

                                           THE CHRISTIAN HAS A MUCH
                                           HIGHER PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE
                                           THAN THE NON-CHRISTIAN.
CHRISTIANITY IS
THE ONLY RELIGION THAT
IS ABLE TO GIVE COMPLETE
SATISFACTION.
                                        WHEN ONE THINKS OF THE
                                          RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS PARENTS
                                          HE SHOULD REMEMBER THE
                                          FIRST COMMANDMENT IN THE
                                         TWENTIETH CHAPTER OF EXODUS.

SOMETIMES IT IS NECESSARY
FOR A CHILD TO LEAD HIS PARENTS,
ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CHILD IS
A CHRISTIAN AND THE PARENT IS NOT.

THE ART OF THINKING -

THE ART OF THINKING

THOUGHTS ON THINKING
by  Wm Henry Cash Jr.   1927 - 2012
Written 1949

The Art of thinking is the art of being one's self.

Exterior solitude is the reduction of human beings and even of objects around us to a minimum.

Concentration is the elimination,
one after another,
of all images foreign to a train of thought.

Many people are professionally trained to THINK.

People, who cannot concentrate, are conscious of
heaviness nullifying every intelligent effort, or,
of volatility precluding but a tip-of-the-wing
contact with the object of attention.

Inferiority complex is responsible for many
who fail to learn how to concentrate.

Nervousness is an obstacle for
concentration.

INTEREST PRODUCES CONCENTRATION.

Concentration is attained by
eliminating images
not harmonious to our trend of thought.

One way to concentrate
is to take a pen or pencil
and write down what our mind
will dictate.

Every person's imagination
is an art gallery
PICTURES
IMAGES
IDEAS
VISUALIZATION
IMAGINING

We can not help thinking
no more than we can help breathing.

GREAT THOUGHTS ARISE FROM THE HEART.

Good Books should cause us to think.

Reading Books that cause us to Think is the Goal.

We should mentally go over what we remember.
We should try to remember what is important.
We should remember great lives and great deeds.

Sometimes our best thinking is
when
we do not suppose we
are thinking !

THOUGHTS FROM HENRY

We should limit ourselves to only recording
what we know.

Notes are ESSENTIAL to preserve thoughts.

We should consider both sides of
an argument,
then
come to our
own conclusion.

We should see the
relationship
between
IDEAS and FACTS

NEVER SEE A THING
WITHOUT VISUALIZING ANOTHER BESIDE IT.

Some people are able to think freely
and charmingly
in speaking,
but
not in writing.
Some people are able to write freely
but are not
able to write it out
in the same way.

Our mind is like our eye it must be SINGLE.

Children have to be educated, but they
also have to be lifted to
education themselves.

EDUCATION is a mental training aiming at
a greater intellectual elasticity, but the question is,
whether education does not often strain
instead of train the mind.

HINDRANCES TO ACCURATE THINKING ARE:
I. UNDEFINED TERMS.
II. UNFINISHED TERMS.
III. COLORED TERMS.
IV. ABSTRACT TERMS.
V. AMBIGUOUS TERMS.
ALL CONSTRUCTIVE THINKING IS
WITH AN AIM IN VIEW.

                                     IX.  INDULGENCES.

                                        THOUGHTS ON STUDYING
We study so that we can acquire fundamental and accurate knowledge so that we can apply what we have learned for the progress of living.
Learning consists of changing one's feelings, thoughts, and actions in the progress of a better understanding of and adjustment to the world we live in.
To learn something new, relate it to something that you already know.
For efficient study, the best type of reading is CRITICAL READING.
Three general purposes for taking notes are:
                  1. to preserve information.
                  2. for future use.
                  3. an aid for clear thinking.

A PLACE FOR STUDYING SHOULD BE FREE FROM DISTRACTION.

A GOOD DICTIONARY SHOULD ALWAYS BE WITHIN REACH WHEN ONE IS STUDYING.

One should take advantage of his community resources as an aid for studying.

                                         MY OWN THOUGHTS
I have found it better to dig out a lesson for one's self
before going to others for help.
The pencil is the best eye.  We should use the pencil as
we study - [underline, special notations].

SETTING MY SIGHTS ON HIGHER GROUND

SETTING MY SIGHTS ON HIGHER GROUND
I KEEP ON CLIMBING

------

PHILIPPIANS 3.10 - 14

------

That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; if by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.  Not as though I had already attained (grasped), either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend (grasp) that for which also I am apprehended (lay hold by) of Christ Jesus.
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended (grasped): but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before., I press toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

As I enter this Winter season, I know it has been three Thanksgivings, and three Christmas Holidays since my dear husband, my Pastor-friend and sweetheart, has been gone.   How I miss him, who so loved me and cherished me.   My heart is full of the knowledge of how much God blessed me in my dear Henry's life.
Many of you out there have experienced loss, and change, and some of you may be wondering how to cope with that loss.  It does not seem to you that God is near, nor does it seem that God is listening to you.
Jesus gives the Believing heart the promise the peace that the world cannot give us.   "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you; let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."  John 14.27
Jesus, knowing that He would become "lifted up" on the cross, had told Nicodemus that at the very outset of His ministry.  In John chapter 3.14 - 17 Jesus declared "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:  that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life, for God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
When Jesus was preparing His disciples, He told them several times, I am going to be betrayed, to die on the cross, and be buried, and I will rise again on the third day.   Yet, just as when I face an approaching death with a loved one, and that person tells me, "I am going to die, ...most of the time I shut "away" from my heart what that person is telling me.  When my Mother was sure that it was "her time" I remember her giving me a call on the phone.   She told me that she was not able to eat, her "appetite" was just NOT THERE, and the doctor told her to get ready, her time was near.
She had a few things she wanted me to REMEMBER TO DO after she died.
I know now that I was NOT LISTENING because I did NOT WANT TO have her telling me she was going to die.   It amazed me after she did pass on, that I remembered the things she wanted me to do - for I surely was having a hard time accepting her death was so near.
What I am saying is that just as I had a difficulty listening to my Mother talk about her death, here in John's Gospel, Jesus is telling His disciples that He wants them to remember that the most important thing He gives them to do "is to love one another, as I have loved you."  John 15.12     He first gave it to them (John 13.34,35) and said, "A new command I am giving to you, to love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another; by this shall all (mankind) men know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
Explaining to His Disciples that He "was going away" and they would not see Him, He reassures them that He is going to prepare a place for them, and then, that they might be with Him, He will come again and take them to be with Him....(John 14.1-3)
In our grief so often we do not know what to do.   But Jesus' words "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me..." give us the reason to cling to the Hope that is indeed His promise of Hope, of Help, of Heart, and of Heaven's portals waiting for us.     Jesus is with us.    Jesus' Spirit is here among us.
Jesus spoke to his "grieving" Disciples who were sorrowful because He was "GOING AWAY" that "You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in my Name, He may give it to you.  These things I command you, that you love one another."  (John 15.16 - 17)
As I look at the past, I may grieve for joys departed, but I must turn my back on what has been, and go forward, for the dear Spirit is in my heart, lifting up the Savior in my life, and glorifying the Father in my ways, by helping me remember His Words.   I am to keep on keeping on.   I am to keep on climbing.   I am able, by God's undeserving favor in my life, because of Jesus' blood offered on the Cross in my place, on my behalf, and as my Passover Lamb, I am able to count on God to hear my prayer and to lead me, and to guide me on to higher ground.
Jesus said in Luke 9.23  "If anyone will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."   That is what Paul is talking about in "grasping" for that which lies before him.   He is talking about LIVING THE RESURRECTION LIFE.... I AM ON THE ROAD THAT LEADS TO HEAVEN...and denying my "self" I am to pick up the cross that God in His mercy and grace gives to me, whatever life has dealt to me, whatever my health, my circumstance, my situation, my needs, and place them in His Hands, and pick them up and give them to Him to help me on my way.
When Moses stood before the LORD, at the Burning Bush, God asked Moses "what is in your hand?"    Moses replied, "My staff"....and God said "throw it down."   He did so.    It turned into a symbol of sin's hold on us -  a SNAKE.   Slithering, it coiled.   Then God said, "Pick it up."   I imagine Moses must have said WHAT FOR ?  THIS ?   But he did so.   And as he picked it up it turned to His Staff again.
As I set my sights on HIGHER GROUND I challenge you as well, to understand, that God is asking you "WHAT IS IN YOUR HAND?"   and then he asks, CAST IT DOWN....before ME, YOUR LORD, YOUR GOD, THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN HELP YOU COPE, HELP YOU SURVIVE, and the Only One who can Lead you on.
As I throw down before the LORD my God, what I have in my hand - all the "stuff" that perplexes, puzzles, and that  probes my brain, my will, and my soul, - lay it all down before Him, and
then He will ask me to TAKE IT AGAIN, PICK IT UP and let God transform it into the very thing that will be my resource for the days ahead.     The very thing that I was afraid of becomes my PURPOSE AND MY STAFF, MY STRENGTH, AND MY HOPE.

When I look at the Mountains, I know my help is not from the mountains, but from the LORD who made heaven and earth.  "Cast you burden upon the LORD and He shall sustain thee. He shall never allow the righteous to be moved."  Psalm 55.22
As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me.
Evening, and morning, and at noon, I will pray, and cry
aloud, and He shall hear my voice." Psalm 55.16,17
"You have given me the shield of your salvation; and your
right hand has held me up, and your gentleness
has made me great.   You have enlarged my steps under
me, that my feet did not slip."  Psalm 18.35,36
"The LORD lives, and blessed be my Rock and let
the God of my Salvation (Adonai Y'shua)
be exalted.
"Being justified by faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ (Adonai Y'shua Meschiach)
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace
in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory
of God. And not only so, but we
glory in tribulations also; knowing that tribulation
works patience (endurance) and patience, experience
and experience, hope: and hope makes not
ashamed, because the Love of God is shed
abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who is given
to us, for when we were yet without strength,
in due time Christ died for the ungodly."
Romans 5.1 - 6
"But God commends His love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us,
Much more then, being now justified by His
blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
Romans 5.8,9
If we have been planted together in the
likeness of His death, we shall be
also in the likeness of His resurrection...
Romans 6.5
Let us walk on, climbing ever higher, setting our sights on higher ground, knowing that God is our Help, and our
Strength, our Resource, our Guide, and our Shepherd.
"The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall not want."
Psalm 23. 1

LIVING TODAY AND TOMORROW

In Climbing Higher with me, I want you to know that I will be sharing thoughts and papers that my husband Wm. Henry Cash wrote over the years.   So much wisdom in all that he wrote.   He gleaned it from the Word, and also from other books that he read.   He ministered to others from 1951 until 2012 when he died and went to be with Jesus in glory.    I have been so blessed, that I wish to share his writings with others.
----

Henry's paper   LIVING TODAY AND TOMORROW is a paper he wrote for a class in seminary, January 1949.    He has 15 sections in this paper.   I will begin by giving you a list of what to expect in these 15 sections.   ENJOY !

       II.  A CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
      III.  COLLEGE CURRICULUM
      IV.  MY LIFE'S VOCATION

      X.  THE ART OF GROWING
     XI.  THE ART OF COURTESY
    XII.  MARRIAGE
   XIII. LEISURE.
   XIV.  FINANCE
    XV.   GOD

Look for good things to come in this series.   If you are a young person just looking for some help in choosing your pathway, these will help you, I am confident.   My husband came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 14.   He said that he felt called to preach from the time he was saved.   This paper was written in 1949 at the time when he had already begun his education to do just that.  I was only a Sophomore in High School at the time, living 3000 miles away.  I had no idea of who I would someday marry.   Meanwhile, he was praying, and trusting God for his future.    I reflect how precious it is to me to have this paper, as it is so much a confirmation of his faith that God would someday bring us together.   In 1960 on May 7th we married in Sacramento CA.   He had been in Christian work for 10 years, and had been pastor of a church for 7 years, in the state of Oregon.
We were married 52 years and 7 months.  I treasure his writings that he has left behind.   Many of these he used over and over as he shared them with folk in ministry.   Now I can put these on my blogs and share them with you.
If you have any questions, or need spiritual answers, go to God's Word.  You may email me at  bmtsjune51@gmail.com   if you need input from me.  Thank you very much.

When the Going is Rough, Keep Climbing

When the going is rough, keep going. As a person walks through life's days, one at a time, the going will get hard at times. Sometimes it seems as though it is everything happening at once. That builds the strength and the stamina when a person meets difficulties. My life right now is a matter of difficulties in which I have no control over, yet I see God's hand in it all. He is my Shepherd. It is in Christ - my Savior - that I have deep communion moment by moment, and with His blood covering my sin I know that I am God's child, and that someday I will see His face. Oh what a blessed prospect. As I look over my circumstances I know I have many blessings. I have a roof over my head, and food in my cupboard, a bed to sleep on, and my Bible and books to study and read. Then add to that the comfort of a small apartment in which to live. What are my difficulties? These days I am recuperating from a partial Hip replacement on my left leg and it it not easy for me to get around. I have a walker which is my mobility for a while. When I can, I practice using a cane. Then there are the factors of changing seasons - I have a very bad sore throat which caused congestion and now I am told all I am to do is "take care of yourself and rest" So I have hopes of getting better soon. Digging in to the Word of God is a pleasure but it is also hard work. A person has to choose to take the time to dig into the Word of God the Bible. It is a treasure store for us. Its foundations are our compass and our light. Matthew 21.22 Prayer is what we need to practice. As we walk with God, we are not alone. He has given us so many examples in the Bible such as Abel, Enoch and Abraham. He has given us the Light of his Spirit to dwell within us. We ought to heed His call, and abide in Him, and let His words abide in us. John 15.7
