THE ART OF THINKING -

THE ART OF THINKING

THOUGHTS ON THINKING
by  Wm Henry Cash Jr.   1927 - 2012
Written 1949

The Art of thinking is the art of being one's self.

Exterior solitude is the reduction of human beings and even of objects around us to a minimum.

Concentration is the elimination,
one after another,
of all images foreign to a train of thought.

Many people are professionally trained to THINK.

People, who cannot concentrate, are conscious of
heaviness nullifying every intelligent effort, or,
of volatility precluding but a tip-of-the-wing
contact with the object of attention.

Inferiority complex is responsible for many
who fail to learn how to concentrate.

Nervousness is an obstacle for
concentration.

INTEREST PRODUCES CONCENTRATION.

Concentration is attained by
eliminating images
not harmonious to our trend of thought.

One way to concentrate
is to take a pen or pencil
and write down what our mind
will dictate.

Every person's imagination
is an art gallery
PICTURES
IMAGES
IDEAS
VISUALIZATION
IMAGINING

We can not help thinking
no more than we can help breathing.

GREAT THOUGHTS ARISE FROM THE HEART.

Good Books should cause us to think.

Reading Books that cause us to Think is the Goal.

We should mentally go over what we remember.
We should try to remember what is important.
We should remember great lives and great deeds.

Sometimes our best thinking is
when
we do not suppose we
are thinking !

THOUGHTS FROM HENRY

We should limit ourselves to only recording
what we know.

Notes are ESSENTIAL to preserve thoughts.

We should consider both sides of
an argument,
then
come to our
own conclusion.

We should see the
relationship
between
IDEAS and FACTS

NEVER SEE A THING
WITHOUT VISUALIZING ANOTHER BESIDE IT.

Some people are able to think freely
and charmingly
in speaking,
but
not in writing.
Some people are able to write freely
but are not
able to write it out
in the same way.

Our mind is like our eye it must be SINGLE.

Children have to be educated, but they
also have to be lifted to
education themselves.

EDUCATION is a mental training aiming at
a greater intellectual elasticity, but the question is,
whether education does not often strain
instead of train the mind.

HINDRANCES TO ACCURATE THINKING ARE:
I. UNDEFINED TERMS.
II. UNFINISHED TERMS.
III. COLORED TERMS.
IV. ABSTRACT TERMS.
V. AMBIGUOUS TERMS.
ALL CONSTRUCTIVE THINKING IS
WITH AN AIM IN VIEW.
