What I have found in my life is that God who made the universe with all its marvelous wonders is the same God who has made Himself known to me through the dear Lord Jesus Christ. Who is He? and why ? is it I know He is the One who gives me reason to Climb ever higher to the realms of spiritual heights ?
I did not come from from a family that went to Church. I did have an Auntie who took me to Church on one long ago Easter Sunday. I happened to be 5 years old at the time. My memory of it may help you understand my sure footing today.
Mother had told me, "When you grow up, and you find out who God is, you can tell me, and I will believe too." So I was looking for God, before I knew who He was.
My Auntie came and took me to Church that Easter Sunday so long ago. I was not dressed fancy, for I had no fancy clothes. I stood at the door of the Nursery, and looked in. A little boy about my age was beginning to build something with blocks on the floor. Another little girl was playing in a corner with a dolly. I thought to myself "where is the story time lady?" I had been told by Mother, "When you hear the story about Jesus, then you tell me." No story? Then as my eyes drifted over the room, while a Lady was helping the little boy with the blocks, I saw the PICTURES. There were 12 of them. The pictures started on one side of a tall window that let in lots of beautiful Sunshine, with three, and then, with three windows there were four groups of three pictures placed carefully on the wall.
I stepped over to the first one. And it was like a LIGHT ENVELOPED ME AS I LOOKED AT THESE PICTURES. I REMEMBER EACH ONE, AS IF IT WERE TODAY.
[1] Mary - listening to an angel speak to her.
[2] Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem. Mary is
sitting on a donkey, with Joseph walking by the side.
[3] Shepherds with their sheep, listening to Angels sing.
[4] Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the Shepherds worshipping the little Baby.
[5] Wise men presenting gifts to Jesus.
[6] Jesus is Baptized by John
[7] Jesus calls two fishermen to follow Him. They leave their boats to do that.
[8] Jesus speaking to the crowds, healing the sick.
[9] Jesus before Pilate on trial.
[10] Jesus on the Cross, gives His life.
[11] Jesus showing Himself to Thomas nail prints in His hands.
[12] Jesus ascends to Heaven on the Mount
All this time I was looking at these pictures I did not think of anything but what seemed to be "like God was whispering to me about Himself" I was not aware of anyone nor of anything except the pictures, and it was like I was ALL ALONE and God was talking to me. Suddenly, the bell rang to close the Sunday School, and I suddenly realized I was in a noisy room, blocks being picked up, toys being put away, and the HOLY LIGHT THAT HAD SURROUNDED ME was gone. I turned to see Auntie in the doorway, come to get me.
When I got home, Mother asked me, "What did you learn today, June? about Jesus? I answered her, "Mother, I don't know, but I think God sent Jesus to show us who He IS and what HE IS LIKE and that somehow Jesus was GOD. When I grow up I want to find out who He is and what He did. I do not remember knowing much about the pictures I saw. I only know it made a distinct impression to me that it was TO SHOW ME HOW MUCH GOD LOVED ME.
I have never forgotten that day so long ago when I was 5.
Today as I Climb ever higher in this life, I expect to see Jesus coming to take us HOME TO HEAVEN WITH HIM when He catches me up to the clouds to meet Him in the air. Today, I know there is trouble all around, and difficulties, but the hope I have in Jesus makes it worth while. I press on to KNOW HIM.
I encourage you, take time to read what Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wrote about Jesus. Take time to think about what He did, what He said, and what was it He told His followers to do.
Matthew 4.19 Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Jesus said. It is still true today.
