THE ART OF GROWING

THOUGHTS ON THE ART OF GROWING
AND HENRY'S THOUGHTS ON
THE MATTER OF GROWING
----
One of the best periods of our life to
take stock of our personal characteristics
and to make plans for development
is during our early years in college.
---
Our chief question should not be how high
an I. Q. do we have, but
how effectively
do we use our intellectual abilities.
Reading habits and skills are
tremendously important to
growing intellectually.
The negative emotion habits
are unchecked fear
and unchecked anger.
Music is written to appeal
to emotions, and to make us
feel various moods.
A common difficulty with
those who do not mingle easily
with other people is that they
have never gained real interest
in other people.
A good student is not interested
so much in a high grade , but keeps on
reading and taking advantage of every
opportunity to increase his or her knowledge.
Henry's Thought:
The chief purpose of mathematics is to increase one's reasoning ability; a language is to increase his memorizing ability; and science is to increase his appreciation for life.
Addendum by June Estelle Cash, 2014
It is not so much whether one is in college or not, that one
chooses to learn. At 81, I am still learning. For you
who are still in your twenty somethings age bracket,
I encourage you to THINK, and reflect, on
Wm. Henry Cash's thoughts.
